Florida Racetracks Want to Add Blackjack
It has been a long going battle between Tribal gaming operators and Florida Lawmakers. Several Tribal casinos have opened blackjack and other table games that are illegal in the state but can do so because of a pact that was signed by the Tribes and the governor. The Florida Supreme Court deemed the pact void but the Tribes continue to run Blackjack and other games at their casinos. Now Racetrack owners want to get in on the action saying the Tribal casinos are hurting their business. One owner has stated they have had the worst week in almost a decade, since the most recent Tribal casinos additions.
A committee is scheduled to meet this week to discuss the Legislatures options. Gaming could be deemed legal for expansion if the citizens of Florida petition or legislation are changed. The CEO of Mardi Gras Gaming in Broward County, Dan Adkins commented: ““We urge the Legislature to reject the now-voided compact and look for ways to create a fair compact that is the best deal for Florida and not just the best deal the for Seminole Tribe.”
A new deal that makes the games legal for all casinos could result in a large increase in revenue for the state of Florida as well as jobs for the unemployed.
